Waste
The UK produces around 400 million tonnes of waste annually–a quarter of which is from households and business. Domestic waste is a small proportion of the total around 30 million tonnes. Loddon provides a national collection scheme for end of life batteries and waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) from business around the UK main land and Northern Ireland.
Hazardous Waste Regulations
(How they apply to you and your battery collections)
These have replaced the Special Waste Regulations 1996. They apply controls on movements of hazardous waste to the revised Hazardous Waste List. The regulations have introduced revised and more streamlined procedures for monitoring movements of hazardous waste. Every business in the UK must register with the Environment agency before hazardous waste can be collected. The registration number is used to create a unique consignment number for each waste movement; this allows a full audit trail on the waste movements from collection point to recycling facility.
